3 Essential Oil Recipes that Help Keep Aging Skin Looking Fantastic

The sheer number of anti-aging products that the skin care market has to offer is staggering. While having so many options is a wonderful thing, it can often leave consumers feeling unsure confused about which products actually work. All too often these products don’t produce the promised results.

Rather than wasting time sifting through products that may or may not work, why not turn to the products that women have been using since the beginning of time – plant extracts. Nothing is quite as potent or effective as ingredients that come straight from nature’s bounty and women throughout the ages have been using plant extracts to fight the effects that time can have on skin. Essential oils are powerful plant based tools and are free of the chemical additives found in man-made anti-aging products.

These essential oils are counted among the best for skin care use not only because of their anti-aging properties, but also their amazing overall beautifying effects.

Step 1: Choose A Carrier Oil

Because of their potency, applying essential oils directly to the skin is not recommended without the use of a carrier oil for a base. Carrier oils are generally gentle oils that are simply used to dilute the essential oils before application. As a rule, the carrier oil should be a neutral oil that is able to be spread thinly for even application as well as reducing the potency of the essential oils that you have added to it. Some excellent carrier oils are:

  • Coconut oil
  • Sweet almond oil
  • Apricot kernel oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Rose hip seed oil
  • Argan oil

These oils alone are all healing, hydrating, and suitable for sensitive skin. The work wonderfully by themselves, but for more noticeable results they can be combined with certain essential oils that can make them even more effective.

Step 2: Choose the Right Essential Oil

There are many essential oils that are good for you skin, but these are among the best. This is particularly true because in addition to their many other beneficial properties, they keep your skin looking young and vibrant even as you grow older.

  1. Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense essential oil has many uses and can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians who used it not only for its medicinal properties, but as an ingredient in rejuvenating face masks. Originating in the Middle East, Frankincense oil is extracted from the aromatic resin of the Boswellia carteri tree. This oil is one of the most potent in the treatment of aging skin. Frankincense has both anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties that make it perfect for treating skin ailments of all kinds. It firms and tightens sagging skin as well as minimizing the appearance of age spots, blemishes, and even scars. It also balances the pH, which is important to healthy skin.

  1. Myrrh Essential Oil

Myrrh essential oil is distilled from the resin of the Commiphora myrrha tree, which is native to Yeman, Arabia, and Somalia and if there were such a thing as a miracle oil, Myrrh would fit the bill. It is not only spiritually soothing, but has a host of medicinal properties as well. It has a long history of use as incense, perfume, and medicine in the Middle East and Africa and has been proven to help wounds heal faster. Myrrh is loaded with anti-oxidants which have been proven to help reverse the signs of aging that are associated with damage caused by free radicals.

  1. Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium oil has a pronounced floral scent that will soothe your senses as it soothes your skin. Its natural astringent properties help to tighten skin and make pores less visible. It also regulates sebum production as it tones and firms the skin. In addition, the geranium plant possesses natural anti-microbial and antioxidant properties to help keep your skin clean and free of damage while it promotes a younger looking you.

Step 3: Combine and Apply Daily

Place 2 Tablespoons of the carrier oil of your choice in a small, glass vessel. Add 5 to 7 drops of the essential oil that you wish to use or any combination of the three (no more than 5 to 7 total drops of essential oil). Seal the vessel and shake to mix. Apply a small amount of the mixture (about dime sized) to your skin each night before bedtime after a thorough cleansing. Repeat each day.

Women have been using Mother Nature’s gifts to enhance their beauty since ancient times. Man-made beauty products are a fairly recent occurrence and they can’t compare with what the earth provides naturally. Where commercial beauty product can fail you, essential oils have withstood the test of time and provide a natural, chemical free alternative to costly anti-aging products that all too often don’t fulfill their promises.
